The selection of flange types of 1 plate type, 2 angle iron type, 3 tongue groove type and 4 step type flange type depends on the die size (the 7500 liter mold needs more support than the 19 liter mold), the length of the unsupported part, the durability of continuous use, and the influence of mold closing line thickness on the product wall thickness. Excessive heavy clamping flange will slow down the conduction of heating and cooling, resulting in the change of product wall thickness. However, if the shape of the flat plates is inconsistent, the deformation will occur, which also leads to cleaning between production cycles and more costs to obtain the contour. Flat plate flange has the advantages of low cost, easy cleaning between production cycles, and can be connected to the sheet metal die by continuous welding. In order to avoid plastic deposit between flange and sheet metal (easy to produce blow hole on the product), this continuous welding method is very important. Generally, the thickness of the flat plate is 6.3-7.2mm. The stepped flange can position the upper and lower dies, and is easier to clean than the tongue and groove type. According to the weight ratio, the angle iron type has higher strength and smaller welding attachment surface than the plate type. The material used as the flange must be compatible with the material used with the die; the sheet metal aluminum mold must use aluminum die flange for welding. In the same case, carbon steel flanges are required for carbon steel sheet metal dies. Stainless steel mold can use carbon steel flange, which is cheaper and easier to weld.
